Daizen Maeda offers 'I didn't know' message on derby day yellow card

Daizen Maeda has taken to social media in response to his yellow card received during Celtic's 2-1 win over Rangers in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

With Matt O'Riley having put his side in front on 35 minutes, it was Maeda's cut-back from the left flank two minutes later that forced the visitors' John Lundstram to fumble the ball into his own net.

Caught up in the rapturous applause booming from the stands as the ball zipped past Rangers stopper Jack Butland, Maeda hopped over the security barrier and threw himself into the elated Paradise crowd.

Upon returning to the pitch, Maeda was met by referee Willie Collum who booked the player for his celebration. Maeda took to social media on Saturday evening to post the following:

"I didn't know that if you go up to the fans you get a yellow card! Oh well!" read Maeda's tongue-in-cheek message, which has since been met with adulation from Celtic fans in the post's replies.

In the wake of Celtic's derby victory, manager Brendan Rodgers praised his players to a man and likewise hailed what he described as a "brilliant day" for Celtic fans all over the world.

After O'Riley put the Hoops ahead, Lundstram's own goal doubled their lead. Cyriel Dessers pulled one back for the visitors before half-time, but the match ultimately finished 2-1.

The match itself had everything over the course of its 97 minutes, with three goals (one of which was an own goal), a handful of yellow cards, a red card, a penalty miss, and on-pitch decisions overruled by VAR.

Now six points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Celtic need just one point from the remaining two games to clinch a third successive league title.
