Dame Shirley Bassey shares a touching tribute to Tina Turner

Dame Shirley Bassey shared a tribute to the late Tina Turner on her Instagram last night (24 May), after the news broke that the singer had passed away.

Last night, the sad news broke that Tina Turner had died peacefully at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht, near Zurich.

It wasn't long before tributes poured in for the Grammy-award winning singer. Dame Shirley Bassey shared a throwback photo with Tina, with the caption "Tina and I were friends during the golden age of Pop, Rock & Roll! She really gave it her everything and was a fantastic performer. I'm deeply saddened to hear of her passing. My condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace."

Both singers began performing in the 1950s, and rose to stardom with unforgettable hits.

Turner was recognised worldwide for her electric performances, and was best known for songs such as 'The Best', 'What’s Love Got to Do With It' and 'Proud Mary'. Having sold over 180 million albums worldwide, Turner is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, winning 12 Grammys.

The news of her passing was shared on her Instagram page. Alongside a black and white photo, the caption read "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly."

Alongside Dame Shirley Bassey's post, tributes were shared from Mick Jagger, Gloria Gaynor, Angela Bassett, Sir Elton John and Beyoncé.
