Dana White Says Women in the UFC was Best Decision He’s Ever Made
In January 2011, UFC president Dana White famously said women would never fight in the UFC. In November 2012, the fight promotion announced the signing of Strikeforce champion Ronda Rousey.
In the three years that she’s been with the organization, the former Olympic medalist has set the records future generations will try to beat and eclipsed every UFC fighter before her in popularity.
Today, White not only admits how wrong he was about women’s fighting, he thinks bringing in females was the best decision that he’s ever made as a promoter.
“This whole women’s power movement that’s going on right now is crazy. Ronda has been the whole thing. Ronda is the one that launched this whole thing. I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for Ronda. She’s the one that convinced me to do it, and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made,” said White during Tuesday’s UFC 193 press conference.

On Nov. 15, Rousey faces former boxing champion Holly Holm in the UFC 193 main event at Etihad Stadium. Strawweight titleholder Joanna Jedrzejczyk faces Valerie Letourneau in the co-main event. It will be the first time in UFC history that two female fights have headlined a pay-per-view event, and White believes that the historic event will set the UFC attendance record.
“We’re sitting here in Melbourne, Australia, where the main event and co-main event are women with a possible 70,000-seat arena sellout. It’s never been done in the history of combat sports. It’s awesome. It’s powerful. It’s cool. I’m really glad to be apart of it.”
