England's performance in its second match at Euro 2024 against Denmark was far from convincing, ending in a draw that left much to be desired.

England's tendency to sit back after taking an early lead and a lack of cohesion on the field raised alarms. Gareth Southgate's gamble to position Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield didn't pay off, and the frontline trio were all substituted early on.

Although the draw edged England closer to the knockout stages of Euro 2024, it did little to inspire confidence among supporters. Post-match commentary turned tense as former England and Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge, now turned analyst, winced while American football hero Alexi Lalas delivered a biting critique on Fox Sports.

With Sturridge looking uncomfortable, Lalas didn't hold back, saying: "To quote the great Justin Timberlake... cry me a river! What's the word you guys use over there, whinging, is that what it is?

"This whinging that's going on right now is absolutely ridiculous. The embarrassment of talent, the wealth of ability that exists on this team, figure it out, alright."

Lalas concluded: "If you're the manager, Southgate, and you arrive at a tournament and you haven't figured it out, that's on you."

Sturridge was left smirking and covering his face in response to Lalas' quoting of pop icon Timberlake, with even the legendary Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, another analyst on the panel, grinning at Sturridge's discomfort.

Despite Lalas' style potentially rubbing Sturridge the wrong way, his assessment would have struck a chord with many England fans. The team's star-studded attack has faced criticism for its lack of chance creation.

This is just one of several issues that Southgate needs to tackle if England wants to progress to the later stages of the tournament. The Three Lions are on track to top Group C, provided they can secure a win against Slovenia on Tuesday.

However, Southgate recognises there's much work to be done following his team's lacklustre display against Denmark. "The team didn't function today - and that's my responsibility," admitted Southgate. "I'm in control and I have to find solutions.

"The players are giving everything. If anything, they care too much. We can't make excuses. We have to accept responsibility. We didn't pass the ball with any intensity and we conceded possession too easily."
