Daniel Sturridge has been left enamored by two young stars of Euro 2024 - and Liverpool should take it as transfer advice from its former striker.

The Reds are embarking on a new era following the departure of Jurgen Klopp, with Arne Slot now in position. Michael Edwards has also returned to the FSG setup, while new sporting director Richard Hughes has joined from Bournemouth.

Between them, there will need to be a focus on setting the team up to succeed for years to come. Klopp warned his successor not to forget about the young talent already at the club, but there are nonetheless areas where one or two signings could be astute.

The forward line is one of those areas. While it boasts some of the strongest depth in the squad on paper, with five elite options, Slot and Hughes have to be mindful of the age profiles.

Most obviously, Mohamed Salah is now 32, and has a year left on his contract. Hughes will sit down and see if a renewal can be agreed, but even if it is, Liverpool clearly needs to start thinking about succession planning.

But even Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are now 27, significantly older than the age at which Liverpool tends to sign players. The next wave of talent needs to be sourced — and Sturridge has picked out Nico Williams as 'doing bits'.

That's a fair assessment of the Athletic Club winger, who tormented Italy in their recent Euros clash. At 21, he is certainly one for the future, but already has a healthy amount of top-level experience.

Liverpool has been linked with Williams, although a host of other clubs are thought to be interested as well. If the Reds can muscle to the front of the queue, it would be the perfect start to this new chapter at Anfield.

Well, almost perfect. What would truly cap it off is if Liverpool could get its hands on the other player Sturridge picked out, although that looks like a pipe dream.

Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal of Spain pose for a portrait during the Spain Portrait session ahead of the UEFA EURO 2024 Germany on June 10, 2024 in Donaueschingen, Germany.

"Lamine Yamal is top class," Sturridge wrote on X. "These 2 guys are abnormal in terms of wingers for Spain. Speed, skill and direct! Spain have a bright future with these 2."

Yamal has had a breakthrough season at Barcelona. Incredibly, he is still just 16 years old, but he plays as though he has been at the top level for years.

Barcelona, presumably, would hold onto him at any cost. But it's always worth monitoring the situation at the Nou Camp, with financial constraints perpetually threatening to force a big sale.

For Liverpool, the teenager would therefore be one to monitor rather than someone it could go out and sign now. But he already shows all the signs of being 'top class', as Sturridge said — he's hugely progressive and extremely active out of possession.

Realistically, Williams is the one to watch for this summer. But Liverpool should heed both of Sturridge's suggestions as it looks to find the next generation of world-class talent.
