Darwin Nunez took to social media after scoring a hat-trick in Uruguay’s 4-0 friendly victory against Mexico overnight.

The Liverpool forward is currently helping his country prepare for the upcoming Copa America, and he caught the eye with an impressive treble against Jaime Lozano's side. Manchester United's Facundo Pellistri also got his name on the scoresheet.

And reacting to his hat-trick online, Nunez wrote: "Simplemente feliz por mi primer hat-trick con la mas linda del alma," which, translated into English, means: "Simply happy for my first hat-trick with the most beautiful soul."

Since Marcelo Bielsa was appointed Uruguay manager last summer, Nunez has been in sublime goalscoring form. The Reds striker has scored eight goals and provided two assists in the seven matches that he's played for his country in the last 12 months, including at least one goal in each of his last five appearances.

Nunez's form in front of goal has been a topic of debate across his two seasons with Liverpool. The striker scored 18 goals in all competitions for the Reds in Jurgen Klopp's final season as Reds manager.

However, despite still managing to enjoy a decent goal return, Nunez's consistency in front of goal has still been a subject of debate. And now the club's new head coach, Arne Slot, will be tasked with getting the best out of the striker when he takes charge of the squad this summer.

The debate intensified in the final weeks of the season when Nunez seemingly deleted the majority of his Liverpool-related posts on his Instagram account. This led to speculation that there may have been a rift between Klopp and Nunez, although the Reds striker appeared to dismiss that rumour in a recent interview.

Slot will oversee pre-season training this summer, which is expected to begin in July. However, Nunez's involvement in pre-season will depend on how far Uruguay progress in the Copa America, with the final taking place on July 15.

That match is just nine days before Liverpool face Real Betis in the United States. Slot will be taking charge of training at the AXA Centre before making the trip across the Atlantic, where players competing both in the Copa America and Euro 2024 will gradually be returning to Merseyside at different times.
