Sri Lankan-born Australian cricket coach Dav Whatmore has stepped down as the head coach of Nepal’s national cricket team. He announced his decision in a letter that was addressed to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), confirming his resignation from the post on August 27.

Whatmore took up the role on 18 December 2020 and terminates it before completing even a year. He stated that it was a tough decision to take as he has been struggling to cope with the time away from his family.

The letter is to confirm you that I want to resign from the head coach position of Nepal Cricket Team immediately after the conclusion of the world cup qualifier on 19th September to be held in Oman. I also wish to confirm you that this is a very tough decision I have to make after making the deepest of my thoughts on the same,” he said.

Due to the ongoing pandemic around the world, it is very difficult for me to stay away from my family for such a long time. I wish to confirm you that this is entirely my personal decision and I truly enjoyed working with CAN & its players who are extremely co-operative to me throughout the entire tenure,” Whatmore revealed.
