David Moyes addresses West Ham plans for next season

David Moyes is targeting immediate success in the Europa League after ending West Ham’s 43-year wait for a trophy.

The Hammers beat Fiorentina in Prague thanks to a late goal from Jarrod Bowen to win the Europa Conference League and have been celebrating since.

It is the first trophy of the 60-year-old’s career and marks yet another sign of progress for the club under his watch.

While the season was not easy for the club and Premier League safety was only secured in the final month of the campaign, European form has proven a major plus point during Moyes’s second reign.

Prior to winning the Conference League, the Irons reached the Europa League semi-finals and will again be playing in Europe’s secondary club competition next season.

Though there had been suggestions Moyes could leave the club prior to that famous night in the Czech captial, co-chairman David Sullivan confirmed the Scot would be staying on next season.

“It’s very hard to compete at the top end every season, but all you can do is try to do your best every season and that’s what we do, and next season that’s what we’ll do,” he said.

“We want to be involved in these competitions, especially when some big clubs are involved in them in them and didn’t win them, so for the players to play Thursday/Sunday and get a trophy at the end of it is some achievement.

“Last night is gone and we’ll have to win the next one now!”

Jose Mourinho’s Roma offer something of a blueprint for Moyes, with the Italian side having reached the Europa League final a year after winning the Conference League.
