On this day: September 5, 1994 - Jerry Rice breaks Jim Brown’s NFL touchdown record

The greatest wide receiver the NFL has ever seen saved his career defining feat for the glitz and glamour of Monday Night Football 21 years ago today, catching a Steve Young pass late in the fourth quarter for his third score of the night in a blowout 44-14 win against the LA Raiders at Candlestick park.

The TD grab saw Rice surpass the legendary Jim Brown’s touchdown mark of 126, which had stood for nearly 30 years.

Rice caught a 69-yard pass in the first and then rushed 23 yards early in the fourth to draw level with Brown.

Rice and Young combined again with time ticking down to break the record. Rice went on to set the record at 208 TD’s, 33 more than anyone else.
