The 2024 NASCAR season has hit its first major detour, now that the Daytona 500 has been postponed from Sunday afternoon to Monday, Feb. 19 at 4 pm ET. The 66th running of the race was postponed for only the third time ever, due to rain from a massive storm system that passed over Florida.

The 500-mile race held at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach has served as the season-opener for the NASCAR Cup Series every February since 1982. This year, the 66th annual Daytona 500 kicks off on Monday at 4 pm ET and will be televised on Fox. The race usually lasts between three and four hours as competitors make 200 laps around the 2.5-mile (4 km) tri-oval track.
