Liverpool are yet to make any signings under Arne Slot this summer, with the head coach barely a month into his tenure.

A number of his stars are away at Euro 2024 and the Copa America, including Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back has started in midfield in both of England’s matches at the Euros so far but is widely expected to be dropped for Tuesday’s clash with Slovenia.

Slot may be keeping his eye on a number of potential transfer targets currently playing in Germany, including Slovakia defender David Hancko whom he worked with at Feyenoord. His agent has now publicly addressed his client’s future amid transfer links with Liverpool.

Branislav Jasurek, the agent of Hancko, has admitted he has received several transfer proposals for his player this summer, but Liverpool are not the frontrunners. That status falls to Atletico Madrid, who have taken a keen interest.

Jasurek told Slovak broadcast media channel RTV: “Of all the clubs that are interested in David Hancko, Atletico Madrid is in first place for us. The other offers are only at the level of conversations.

“At this moment, nothing else has emerged, and David likes (the option of playing under Diego Simeone). He doesn’t have an exit clause, that’s easier. The amount of 40-50 million euros is exaggerated.”

The ECHO says: Hancko, 26, has been one of Slot’s most successful Feyenoord signings and has looked good for Slovakia at Euro 2024 - but that does not mean he will be a surefire success in the Premier League.

Centre-back is not one of the priority recruitment areas for Liverpool this summer with Jarell Quansah, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate to choose from to partner Virgil van Dijk. But it would be wise to start thinking about the future with Van Dijk turning 33 next month.

Lineker defends Alexander-Arnold

Gary Lineker says he sympathises with Alexander-Arnold ahead of his probable axing from England’s line-up this evening. The Liverpool ace has faced criticism following a poor Three Lions display in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Denmark while operating as a pivot.

“I do feel a bit for Trent Alexander-Arnold,” he told the BBC. “I feel like he’s been hung out to dry a little bit. His manager’s said he’s an experiment and now it looks like an experiment that doesn’t work.

“It’s very hard to play in a new position even when a team’s playing well. But when a team’s struggling and a team’s disjointed and not together and not getting up the pitch it becomes very difficult. I do feel for him because he’s an unbelievably talented player.”

The ECHO says: Liverpool fans are accustomed to seeing Alexander-Arnold occupy that area of the pitch when drifting inside from the right-back slot. Starting in the position is a different task, though, and it will be interesting to see Slot’s take on the prospect.

The new head coach often used a double pivot at Feyenoord, while the emergence of Conor Bradley provides ample cover at right-back if needed. But it would seem more likely that Alexander-Arnold stays at right-back given his historic potency in the role at Anfield.
