Delhi boys, Sidney girls triumph at Quinney Invitational track meet

Jan. 15—Several local indoor track and field teams were in Cortland last Saturday for the Quinney Invitational.

The meet was split so that teams from the MAC, Delaware and Tri-Valley Leagues were pitted against each other.

Delhi took home the boys team title edging out Sidney and Oxford/Greene while Sidney won the girls event over Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville and Delhi.

On the boys side, Delhi's Josh McNamara and Logan Mott won the 3000 meter run and shot put, respectively, while the Bulldogs also won the 1600 relay.

Also earning firsts were Gordon Smith of Oxford/Greene in the 3200 and Brock Porter of B-G/A/H in the 1500 race walk.

Dejah Taylor won the 300 for Sidney while the Sabers also took first in the 1600 relay.

For Delhi, Eleanor Lees won the 600, Gretel Hilson-Schneider won the 3000 and the Bulldogs finished first in the 4x55 shuttle hurdle relay.

Rounding out the local winners was Rhea Malmquist of Oxford/Greene in the shot put.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cherry Valley-Springfield 55, Charlotte Valley 41 (Saturday)

The Cherry Valley-Springfield girls basketball team took down Charlotte Valley 55-41 in Saturday's non-league contest.

Mia Dubben and Daphnee West scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead CV-S while Brin Whiteman added 10 points in the win.

Brinlee Wright scored 14 points for the Wildcats while Natalie Amadon and Ella Gerster each scored 10.

CV-S will be at Franklin Tuesday while Charlotte Valley will host South Kortright Wednesday.

Laurens/Milford 55, Franklin 26 (Friday)

Laurens/Milford took down Franklin 55-26 at home Friday in Tri-Valley League action.

Kyrah Andrades led the way with 17 points in the win while Delaney Maison and Alisa John each scored nine.

Shannon Kingsbury was the top scorer for Franklin with 13 points.

L/M (7-5 overall, 3-2 league) will be at Edmeston/Morris Tuesday while Franklin will host Cherry Valley-Springfield the same day.

VOLLEYBALL

The Cooperstown volleyball team blanked Westmoreland in straight sets Friday by scores of 25-7, 25-18, 25-14.

The Hawkeyes' top performers in the win included Sophia Hotaling with 33 digs and three aces, Alexis Wolfe with six digs, five assists and three aces, Lucy Hayes with 11 assists, three digs and two kills, Violet Gentiles with 12 digs, five kills, two assists and two aces and Grace Sperry with four kills and three blocks.

Cooperstown will host Stockbridge Valley Friday.
