Delhi, Sidney boys punch tickets to MAC title game

Feb. 13—The Delhi boys basketball team rolled to a 72-31 win at home in the Midstate Athletic Conference semifinals Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had four scorers in double-digits with Lucas Nealis leading the way with 13 points, Chuck Haight netting 11 points, grabbing six rebounds and Tommy Nagy and Ivan Richardson adding 11 and 10 points, respectively.

James Hogroian led B-G with eight points in the loss.

Delhi improves to 15-4 and will take on Sidney in the championship game Saturday at Unadilla Valley at 3 p.m.

Sidney 49, Greene 46

In Tuesday's other MAC semifinal, Sidney edged Greene on the road 49-46.

Connor van der Sommen led the Sabers with 24 points while Dylan Easton scored nine and Jalen Reardon added seven.

Joel Vielandi led Greene with 16 points while Will Dunlap and Jaden Eroshevich scored 13 and 11, respectively.

Cherry Valley-Springfield 54, Sharon Springs 27

Cherry Valley-Springfield defeated Sharon Springs in the Tri-Valley League playoffs at home Tuesday.

Trevor Campagna and Max Horvath each scored 11 points for the Patriots while CJ Hurley added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds and Kris Cade tallied eight steals on the defensive end.

Ethan Mickel and Micahel Cashman led SS with 14 and 10 points, respectively, in the loss.

CV-S will host Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Thursday in the TVL playoffs.

Unatego 69, Whitney Point 30

A balanced attack led the Unatego girls to a 69-30 non-league victory over Whitney Point Tuesday.

Five Lady Spartans scored at least nine points, with Bailey McCoy's 13 leading the way.

Avery James scored 11, Harly Birdsall scored 10 and Madisyn Birdsall and Gracie Tilt added nine apiece.

Unatego used a 27-2 second quarter to break the game open.

Unatego will face Greene in the MAC title game Saturday at Unadilla Valley at 1 p.m.

Franklin 69, Sharon Springs 30

Franklin topped Sharon Springs 69-30 in Tuesday's Tri-Valley League game.

Shannon Kingsbury poured in 33 points for the Purple Devils, who jumped out to a 25-5 first-quarter lead.

Maddie Hyzer, Haylee Taggart, Sara Rosenbusch and Lucas Van Dyke each had six points in the win.

Lilly Tessier led Sharon Springs with 15 points.

Oxford 29, Walton/Downsville 28

Oxford edged Walton/Downsville 29-28 in Tuesday's low-scoring MAC showdown.

Margaret Rovente led the Blackhawks with eight points and sank the game-winning free throw after being fouled at the buzzer.

Jocie Finch and Taegan Manwarren added six points each.

For Walton/Downsville (10-10), Grace Walley had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while Ella Beardslee also had 12 points.

Edmeston/Morris defeated Canajoharie/Fort Plain 54-27 in Monday's non-league contest.

After ending the first quarter tied, E/M went on a 19-1 run in the second quarter to pull away for the win.

Molly Rifanburg led the offense with 25 points while Haylie Lund added 12 points of her own.

E/M will host Richfield Springs Wednesday.
