Diego Sanchez One and Done at Featherweight, Moving Back Up

Diego Sanchez Issues Statement Following Matt Brown's Crushing Elbow Knockout

Diego Sanchez is one and done at featherweight.

Sanchez made his UFC debut by winning the middleweight tournament on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, but immediately dropped down to welterweight following the season one finale.

He fought well at welterweight, amassing a 7-2 record in the Octagon at 170 pounds. He then made the move to lightweight, won two bouts, but then lost in his title bid before moving back to welterweight.

Sanchez is known for exciting fights, but has bounced back and forth between wins and losses during the past few years, which saw him again drop to lightweight before finally taking a shot at 145 pounds in his most recent bout.

Sanchez went the distance with Ricardo Lamas in November, which was no small feat. Lamas is a Top 5 featherweight. The weight cut to get to 145 pounds, however, was too much for Sanchez, especially with new stricter weight cutting rules that ban intravenous rehydration.

When he returns to the Octagon, Sanchez will fight at lightweight, although, at the time of publication, there were no further details on his next bout.
