Aberdeen could be on the verge of sealing a stunning move for St Johnstone goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov.

New Dons boss Jimmy Thelin has prioritised a new No1 after Kelle Roos decided to let his contract run down. And Bulgarian international Mitov has been identified as his top target after his heroics helped keep Saints in the Premiership last season.

Mitov enjoyed a phenomenal debut season at McDiarmid Park after arriving from EFL League Two side Cambridge United last summer. The 27-year-old proved a formidable presence between the sticks, pulling off a string of top saves to help save Craig Levein's men from relegation.

His excellent form impressed newly-appointed Thelin and it's said that the Pittodrie side have triggered a six-figure release clause in his contract. Mitov will now hold talks with Thelin as Aberdeen attempt to lure him to the Granite City which would leave St Johnstone scrambling to find a new experienced shotstopper before the upcoming Premier Sports Cup group stage fixtures kick off, although Airdrie’s Josh Rae has signed up.

It comes after Football Scotland exclusively revealed yesterday that the agent of Duk has warned Aberdeen they'll have to sell the attacker this summer or lose him for nothing when his contract runs out next summer.
