Alexis Mac Allister is the best player in the Premier League right now, according to Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese forward was quizzed by GOAL ahead of Euro 2024 and admitted that Mac Allister is the standout star in the league after being seriously impressed during his first season. Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Brighton in a deal worth $45 million last summer and became a key player in Jurgen Klopp's team.

Ahead of the 2023-24 season, there were serious concerns surrounding the Liverpool midfield as Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were sold to teams in Saudi Arabia. Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left after their contracts expired.

Liverpool received $67 million from the two midfield sales and reinvested that plus an extra $120 million to sign Dominik Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo. All signings impressed, but Mac Allister stood out from the rest and was given the highest praise by Jota.

It was Phil Foden who was crowned Premier League Player of the Season as his 19 goals and eight assists helped Manchester City win a record fourth-straight title. Although Mac Allister wasn't in the conversation, he was considered by many as the best signing of the season alongside Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.

Mac Allister played 33 Premier League games last season, scoring five goals and recording five assists from the heart of midfield. The 25-year-old was instrumental in a pivot role, playing slightly deeper than he did at Brighton as Klopp needed control at the base of his midfield trio.

The World Cup winner received interest from multiple teams but chose Liverpool because of how they treated him, especially Klopp. "It is an amazing year for me, I achieved a lot of good things, World Cup, to qualify for Europe with Brighton and then sign for Liverpool," Mac Allister said to TNT Sports when being unveiled last season.

"[It was] pretty special for me. I've been training and working really hard to get to this place. I try to be a better person and a better player every day and I'm really happy and really proud of what I'm doing now.

"It was easy [to move to Liverpool] because the club and the manager made it easy because from the first moment, they showed a real desire for me and that was so important because, in football, money is a big thing, but sometimes it's not the biggest thing. The manager, the club showed a real desire, real interest, and I'm really grateful for that."

All of Liverpool's four midfield signings from last season credited Klopp as a determinate factor, but the German announced towards the end of last season that he would be leaving the club after nine years. Former Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot will now oversee operations, as Liverpool enters an unknown era.

Slot won the Eredivisie title in 2022-23, and won the Dutch Cup last season as a parting gift. Slot prefers a 4-2-3-1 formation to the 4-3-3 Liverpool has become used to under Klopp, so Mac Allister may see his role altered next season.
