Dominic West on ‘The Crown’ Finally Ending: ‘I Read All the Reviews and Spent Two Days in Bed’

Dominic West was stressed over Royals’ and others’ reactions to the final season of “The Crown.”

West portrayed Prince Charles during his marriage to late Princess Diana, played by Elizabeth Debicki. The sixth and final season of the acclaimed Netflix series included Diana’s death and saw Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) scrambling to keep the monarchy relevant in the 21st century.

West explained during the BBC Radio 4 show “Today” (via Deadline) that he did have some “concern” over how the surviving Royal family would view the show, especially after “The Crown” cast had to defend the series against criticisms that certain portrayals were insensitive.

“I don’t want to make their lives any more difficult than they already are, so I suppose it does concern you. All reactions worry me,” West said. “I read all the reviews and spent two days in bed. So yes, I’m a sensitive soul, I worry about what people think.”

“The Affair” alum West added of portraying Prince Charles in “The Crown” before he was appointed King Charles III, “I loved being on it. I loved wearing the clothes. I loved driving the cars and I loved having people bow to me. It’s an absolutely wonderful feeling. […] You don’t turn down a Peter Morgan script very easily.”

However, that doesn’t mean West wanted to keep wearing the crown forever: “It’s such a relief now to go back to theatre and not have to talk about the monarchy anymore,” the actor, soon appearing in a production of Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge,” said.
