DONE DEAL: Ben Johnson joins Ipswich Town on four-year deal

Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of defender Ben Johnson.

The versatile 24-year-old - a right-back who can also play at left-back, centre-back and further forwards - turned down a new contract at West Ham to become a free agent.

He's signed a four-year deal at Portman Road, becoming the Blues' second summer signing following last night's news that recent loan star Omari Hutchinson had returned to club in a club-record £18m deal from Chelsea.

Johnson has made 38 starts and 31 sub appearances in the Premier League for the Hammers over the last six years, also featuring heavily in the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

"Ben is a player who fits the profile we like to bring to the club,” Blues boss Kieran McKenna told the club website.

“He is a young and talented defender with good technical quality, as well as excellent physical attributes.

“Ben also has a good amount of Premier League experience for his age and he is hungry to take the next step in his career. We feel this is a good move for him and he is an excellent addition for the club.

“Everyone who has worked with him speaks highly of his character, so we’re sure he will fit into the dressing room and our environment and culture.”

Earlier today, it was confirmed that last season's No.1 goalkeeper, Vaclav Hladky, has departed the Blues after failing to agree terms for a new contract.
