DRAGONS hooker Sam Scarfe is poised to take on Premiership leaders Northampton at a packed Franklin’s Gardens after joining Gloucester on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who signed a new deal with the Rodney Parade club last month, has been named on the Cherry and Whites’ bench as back-up for Santi Socino in the sell-out clash in the East Midlands.

Scarfe enjoyed a strong season with Pontypool in the Premiership and made his Dragons debut at Glasgow in February, albeit in his former position of flanker due to injuries.

Now the former Wales Under-20s international is set to test himself in the top flight of English rugby in front of 15,000 fans against a Saints side who are setting the pace.

Gloucester, one from bottom in the Premiership, have two games left in the league before they take on the Sharks in the final of the European Challenge Cup at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Dragons have a good relationship with the West Country side and earlier this season brought in flanker Harry Taylor on a short-term loan for their game at Ulster because of a back row crisis.

Prop Josh Reynolds and scrum-halves Che Hope and Lewis Jones went the other way earlier in the season to play for the Cherry and Whites in friendly fixtures.
