After finishing the 2023/24 season in style with five straight victories, there looked to finally be some momentum building at Chelsea.

That, though, was under Mauricio Pochettino, who left the club just days after the campaign concluded. Since, Enzo Maresca has signed a five-year contract to take over from Pochettino as head coach.

And with the summer transfer window approaching, there is set to be another host of changes at Stamford Bridge. By the time the new season begins, the squad Maresca has at his disposal could look very different. And, with that being said, takes a look at what Chelsea's dream line-up would look like for the opening game of the season in August.

There have been some rumours that the club are looking to sign another goalkeeper despite Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez joining less than 12 months ago. However, there are reports that Maresca is a big fan of Sanchez, so the signs suggest the Spaniard could be his first-choice at the start of the season at the very least.

Malo Gusto had a superb debut season at Stamford Bridge but if Reece James is fit and available, then it seems inevitable that the club captain will start on the right-hand side of defence. With Maresca liking his full-backs to invert, it could be a slightly different role for James next season but one that seemingly suits his skillset.

Marc Cucurella showed his ability when inverting towards the back-end of last term and he could start over Ben Chilwell because of this. Chelsea have plenty of centre-backs, so choosing a partnership could be a welcome headache for the new boss.

Almost picks itself, doesn't it? Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo as the double pivot, especially with the future of Conor Gallagher still up in the air.

The club retain a long-term interest in Michael Olise, understands, and could make a move for him this summer. If they do manage to sign him, the Frenchman surely walks straight into the team on the right-hand side.

If this is the case, then we could see Cole Palmer in the middle and Christopher Nkunku on the left-hand side. Up top, Benjamin Sesko would be the dream option with Chelsea interested in signing the Slovenian striker.

However, Arsenal are also keen admirers of Sesko. And, if reports are to be believed, the Gunners are currently leading the race to sign the 21-year-old centre-forward.

Dream Chelsea XI: Sanchez; James, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Olise, Palmer, Nkunku; Sesko.
