A driver had a “very lucky escape” when a huge branch went through their windscreen.

A lorry struck the branch sending it into the front of the car driving in the opposite direction in Sussex on Tuesday.

A picture of the vehicle, after the crash on the A283 between Dacre Gardens and Shoreham, shows how the branch smashed through the windscreen and out of the car’s passenger side.

Sussex Police said in a statement on X: “The driver of this vehicle had a very lucky escape this afternoon on the A283 between Dacre Gardens and Shoreham.

“A high sided HGV has struck a branch which has detached and struck the car.

The force added: “Luckily there was no front seat passenger and the driver was not injured.”

Sussex Police have asked witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage of the incident to contact them quoting CAD 904 14/5/24.
