Dunk in running for Euros as he makes Southgate's initial squad

Lewis Dunk remains on course to go to Euro 2024 with England.

The Albion captain was today named in Gareth Southgate’s 33-man training squad.

It will be reduced to 26 players on June 7.

Dunk has been a mainstay for the Seagulls and played for the Three Lions against Brazil and Belgium in March.

He generally did well in his 90 minutes against Belgium but was at fault on the first of the visitors' goals in a 2-2 draw.

Dunk later played a part in Jude Bellingham’s added-time equaliser.

He has won five caps in total and must now look to secure a place in the final group.

Uncapped Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite will also have an eye on Germany.

Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) and Jarell Quansah (Liverpool) also make the 33 along with the experienced duo Harry Maguire and John Stones plus the versatile Joe Gomez.

Defenders missing out include Eric Dier and James Tarkowski.  

Dunk was kept out of the final game of the league season at home to Manchester United due to  a minor knee injury.

But Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi said at the time: "I don’t think it’s a big problem, which is good news for him and us."

Elsewhere, Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson are among the players to miss out.

England have friendlies against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland in early June.
