East Central sweeps EIAC swim titles

Jan. 10—ST. LEON — The EIAC swim meet was held Monday at East Central, a make-up date due to the weather Saturday. The Trojans and LadyTrojans claimed the conference team titles.

For the boys, East Central tallied 376 points for first place. Greensburg was second with 243. Connersville took third with 168 followed by Batesville 158, South Dearborn 117 and Lawrenceburg 43.

For the girls, East Central won the title with 371 points. Batesville was second with 222 and South Dearborn was third with 182. Connersville finished with 159 followed by Greensburg 122 and Lawrenceburg 48.

Greensburg

Greensburg's Jacob Hawkins, Tristen Hostetler and Christopher Mains were selected to the EIAC All-Conference team.

Hawkins finished first in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 backstroke. Hostetler won the 500 freestyle and finished second in the 200 freestyle. Mains touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley and was second in the 100 breaststroke. Mains time in the event was the second-fastest time in school history.

The Pirates also had a number of second place finishes including the 200 medley team of Jake Taylor, Jake Hawkins, Joe Hawkins and Tyler Williams; the 200 freestyle relay team of Mains, Williams, Taylor and Hostetler; and the 400 freestyle relay team of Mains, Hostetler, JR Frensemeier and Jake Hawkins.

Williams also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle.

For the Lady Pirates, Lily Corya was selected to the EIAC All-Conference team after winning the 100 breaststroke and finishing fifth in the 50 freestyle. Brenley Jameson was fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 200 freestyle. Elizabeth Walden took sixth in both the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

The Lady Pirates added third place finishes in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Batesville

Both Batesville teams came out and swam extremely well despite the change in schedule due to the weather.

"Our teams came out with a completely different energy we haven't seen yet this season," Coach Greg McMullen said.

The Lady Bulldogs matched their all-time best with a second place finish. Juniors Isabel Raab and Sarah Bedel both scored 22 points individually leading the team.

Emi Lopez lead the Bulldogs individually with two third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

In the relays, Bedel and Raab teamed up with Emma Miller and Taylor Blanton to place second in both the 200 Medley and 200 freestyle relays. Lopez teamed up with Dylan Shane, Tyler Kuntz and Sam Richardson to place third in the 200 Medley and was fourth in the 200 freestyle relay with Shane, Ben Kuntz, Matthew Maher and Lopez.

Tyler Kuntz, Richardson, Maher and Ben Kuntz brought home third in the 400 Freestyle relay while the team of Meg Siefert, Jenna Zimmerman, Sam Adams and Briley Broshears came in 5th.

"We're extremely proud of our girls for matching the all-time best with a second place finish and are excited to see how much further we can push the entire team," Coach McMullen added.
