Liverpool already knows all about Eberechi Eze – in fact, the Crystal Palace star conjures some painful memories from last season for the Reds.

According to reports, Eze could be a target for Liverpool this summer. Give Me Sport has suggested that talks have taken place between the Reds and Eze’s agent about a possible transfer.

The 25-year-old has been one of Palace’s standout stars since making the switch from QPR in 2020. He scored 11 goals last season and added four assists, earning himself a call-up to England’s squad for Euro 2024.

Not only that, but his form is attracting plenty of attention now that the transfer window is open. As well as Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham have been credited with an interest.

Palace certainly wouldn’t be prepared to let Eze go cheaply, with BBC Sport previously suggesting the Eagles would seek at least $76m (£60m/€71m). With Michael Olise looking set to join Bayern Munich, Oliver Glasner’s side certainly won’t be keen to lose another of their stars this summer.

Nevertheless, The Guardian claims Palace is bracing itself for interest in Eze. Given what he did to Liverpool last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Reds were among the sides involved.

Liverpool fans will no doubt remember – no matter how much they’d like to forget – Eze scoring the winner for Palace at Anfield back in April, which effectively put paid to Jurgen Klopp’s hopes of ending his tenure with a second Premier League title to his name.

The goal saw the former Liverpool boss visibly stunned, and he was lost for words when summing up his side’s defeat at full-time.

"Here we stand, lost the game, feel really rubbish and now we need a bit of time to process that,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “It's a really bad moment, the second home game in a row we lose.

“I cannot pick anyone up in this moment, that would not be honest. I stand here and feel really average, or below. I cannot change the world in interviews. I need time to think about it.”

Liverpool.com says: Every time I’ve seen Eze this summer, my mind just goes back to that goal at Anfield, which tells you just how devastating it was. He could repair some of that damage if he were to make the move to the Reds.

Having said that, it’s hard to imagine where he would fit into the side. Arne Slot already has plenty of options in terms of attacking midfielders, as well as left wingers. Unless any of them were to leave this summer, Eze feels like a player Liverpool doesn’t really need right now.
