Ederson breaks silence on Liverpool transfer links and gives cryptic response

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has broken his silence on his future ahead of the summer transfer window. The Brazilian has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent times after an eye-catching season.

The 24-year-old first emerged as a target for the Reds during the January transfer window and featured prominently in both fixtures against Liverpool in the Europa League. Atalanta would go on to knock Liverpool out of the competition on the way to securing the trophy against Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen side in May.

Liverpool invested heavily in the midfield last summer with the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo - although further reinforcements could still be sought in the holding midfielder role.

It was reported by Sports Zone last week that Liverpool was close to reaching an 'agreement in principle' with the 24-eyar-old although those claims have since been played down.

Ederson's has now answered questions about a possible move this summer, telling AS:“I am very happy at Atalanta. I just won a great title, I am very well-integrated. My future is something that doesn't worry me. Rumours are one thing that, as my wife and I often say, will always pass. We are calm and happy, we enjoy the moment.

“If there has to be some kind of change, I trust my agents. I have an agent who has been with me for over 13 years, so the moment he thinks something positive is going to happen, he will tell me and we are in contact about that.

“If an offer comes, Atalanta will decide. If something comes up about a transfer, the club has to accept it first, and that is the most important thing. I have a good relationship with Atalanta, so the moment they come and tell me that they have some kind of offer, that will be when the talks start.

“At the moment, I am an Atalanta player and I am still an Atalanta player. When my time with the national team ends, I will also enjoy a short vacation, which is important to rest, and then I will return to Italy.”

Liverpool.com says: Endo needs help in the defensive midfield role and while Ederson is capable of playing here, he will also offer the squad a presence in other areas of the pitch. I recently travelled to Milan to watch him in action and was impressed by how well-rounded his game is. Atalanta had little to no possession in the game, so he was mostly sitting ahead of the defence to break play up, but would also offer moments of relief as he burst forward with the ball or baited his opponents into fouling him.
