Eintracht Frankfurt could make £40m in just weeks by selling Ante Rebic to Manchester United

Eintracht Frankfurt could make more than £40m in a matter of weeks if they sell Ante Rebic to Manchester United in a deal rumoured to be worth £44m.

Rebic completed a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt after two seasons on loan from Serie A club Fiorentina, scoring eight goals in 49 appearances. The cost of the transfer was €1.8m (£1.6m).

The Croatia forward impressed at the World Cup as his team reached the final before losing to France 4-2, scoring once in a 3-0 win over Argentina. He can play across the front three, in midfield, and on the flanks, and Jose Mourinho is looking for a right-winger, and someone who can play understudy to main striker Romelu Lukaku.

United reportedly contacted Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, and an asking price of 50 million euros would be a huge profit for a transfer that has only just been completed.

Some articles have suggested that Manchester United have made an error in failing to sign Rebic for that bargain fee themselves, but they are likely missing the point. The fee was probably built into the loan contract between the German and Italian club, and would not have been a clause that a third party could activate.
