That was embarrassing – it's time for action

Coming into this game, I wasn’t confident of a Rangers victory. However, when I saw we were going with three in the middle, I felt we may have learned lessons from the last defeat. But then I remembered who was in our dugout. We lost 4-0 and frankly it could have been a lot more. The group of players who cheered when they drew Celtic like a League Two team reacts when they get a third round draw at Old Trafford, acted just like that. It was totally unacceptable on every single level.

That leads me to remember an old footballing saying. The team on the park is often a reflection of the man in the dugout. Spinless, passionless, scared and lacking ability. I felt that’s how the performance was from the outset from the players and those adjectives sum Graeme Murty up to a tee. I simply do not care if he’s a nice guy or whatever. That defeat today was every bit as bad as the 2-0 defeat under Kenny McDowall a few years ago.

At least McDowall’s team was in the lower leagues. Murty quite frankly, can leave. I am just simply fed up with having to watch him pretend to be a manager at our expense. This is where the board have to take the blame. They endorsed this farce in October and after that meek surrender in the biggest game of our season, they have to act now and make sure Murty is not in charge come Monday morning.

Furthermore, he said and I am paraphrasing. “I didn’t have to say anything at half-time. It only leads to finger pointing and blaming individuals.” Someone should tell Graeme he’s not managing kids anymore. If someone is not pulling their weight their teammates have every right to dig them out. It sums up the attitude. We have an attitude running through our club of failure. Ultimately, the manager carries the can and I believe it’s down to Murty again.

However, with five games to go, we have to remove him. I have always believed the players have been manning this ship since Murty has come in and those comments today after that embarrassment has reaffirmed this belief.

To be honest, I actually left when Ross McCrorie got sent off. I felt sorry for him today because Maldini and Baresi would have struggled to play next to the mistake machine who is Russell Martin – hopefully he’s gone in the summer. I was just sick and tired of watching that inept performance. Being honest, the thought of five more games with Murty in charge destroys my soul.

Ultimately, my hope is this becomes a watershed where we move on from here, clear the dross from the club and become stronger for it. This weak-willed, zip-chewing from the sidelines is not acceptable.

Regrettably, we just have to limp to the end of the season and hope the damage is minimal. However, the board, the players and the apparent manager have to take the blame for this season. It’s been one embarrassment way too often for these loyal fans. We deserve better and it’s about time we got it.

That’s the word of the day. Embarrassing. It just shows, however, how football results against Fraserburgh and the likes can paper over some glaring cracks. We have to get this right and we need to start doing it now. That comes down to player recruitment and appointing a new manager.

To be honest, it will take a while to get over this one. The only thing I feel is disgust. Time for action and swift action or we will fall further behind.
