Emerson Royal awaiting Tottenham transfer decision on his future as clubs circle right-back

No clubs have made a definitive move for Emerson Royal yet despite plenty of interest in the Tottenham right-back this summer, football.london understands.

The Brazilian right-back is expected to be one of Spurs' higher value departures in the coming months after starting just 11 Premier League matches last season with most of those spent filling in as either a centre-back or left-back when Ange Postecoglou's squad was flooded with injuries.

Emerson arrived at Tottenham in 2021 from Real Betis and has made 101 appearances since for the north London club since, scoring four goals and providing two assists. The 25-year-old is not seen as the most natural fit for Postecoglou's inverted right-back role and while the defender has relished his time at Spurs, it is understood that he simply wants to play regular football next season, whether that is at the club or elsewhere.

AC Milan have been strongly linked with a move for Emerson this summer with reports in Italy of negotiations taking place between the two clubs with a fee of £21million wanted by Spurs. However, football.london understands that any talks currently remain with the Brazilian's representatives and Tottenham are yet to engage in formal talks with Milan over the player.

At this stage Milan are believed to be showing the most interest with Emerson's camp while Brazilian side Flamengo have also been keen to bring Emerson back home and clubs in the Saudi Pro League have shown an interest in the Premier League full-back.

Spurs have been linked with another Brazilian in 22-year-old Monaco right-back Vanderson as a potential replacement for Emerson, while football.london have also previously reported that the north London outfit have a strong interest in Leeds' much-coveted 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray, who played most of last season as a right-back for the Championship side.
