Emma Hayes has told Chelsea to put emotion to one side in their bid to reach the Women’s Champions League final for the first time.

They trail Bayern Munich 2-1 ahead of their semi-final second leg on Sunday, and Hayes is adamant they have to treat it like any other game to avoid being swept up by the occasion.

The Chelsea manager said: “I’m going to make sure everybody in this environment behaves exactly the same way they behave every day. Anything else means you are preparing for an occasion.

“Well no one is getting married and it’s a game of football, it’s our job to do what we do.

“Being a pro is just doing it all the time. That’s what we’ve cultivated over the years.

“It doesn’t matter if it is Bristol this weekend or Bayern Munich, I promise you we will prepare in exactly the same way.”

Hayes insists she will be proud Chelsea’s achievement no matter what the result on Sunday.

She added: “We’ve won one cup, we’re leading the league, two points clear at this moment in time, we are in the Champions League semi-final, I cannot be disappointed with where we are.

“We are where we want to be and I will put my energy in maintaining that.”
