Emma Raducanu is into the last eight of the US Open after a stunning 6-2, 6-1 win over Shelby Rogers during which the young Brit won 11 consecutive games.

The 18-year-old lost the first two games of the match before storming her way into the last eight, dropping just one more game after that point.

Rogers defeated world number one Ashleigh Barty on Saturday but it was a very different experience for the American here as Raducanu reeled off 11 games in a row to book a last-eight date with Olympic champion Belinda Bencic.

Raducanu was the first woman since Jennifer Capriati in 1990 to reach at least the fourth round of her first two grand slam tournaments, having reached the second week at Wimbledon earlier this year, and she is only the third qualifier to reach the quarter-finals in New York.

“I am so happy to have come through and overcome some of the nerves at the beginning,” said Raducanu.

“I am going to try and do my best each round and see how far it goes.”
