Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb confirms Mack's motive in Caleb whodunit

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Lawrence Robb has opened up on Mackenzie Boyd's possible motives behind the brutal attack on Caleb Milligan.

In tense scenes coming next week, months of scheming from Caleb to take over Home Farm will come to an end when his plot is exposed to the village, with the Dingles and the wider residents of the Dales turning against him in the process.

After being confronted at the pub, viewers will see Caleb followed by a mysterious figure who pushes him over the edge of a woodland ridge and leaves him for dead.

There is no shortage of villagers who will want to see Caleb suffer, with Cain Dingle, Leyla Cavanagh, Will Taylor and Mack all suspects in the mystery.

Lawrence has spoken about the pain Mack experiences when Caleb sleeps with Charity, despite his recent actions that destroyed his marriage after he hid the fact he is the father of Chloe Harris' baby Reuben.

"He can't really complain too much about the act itself, he hasn't been an angel either," he said. "But I think it's more the fact that it is Caleb who Charity chooses to sleep with. Mackenzie hates Caleb, he's never liked him. So ultimately, I think that's the most hurtful thing for him."

He then revealed how Caleb could be involved in Mack's vicious attack after promising him there will be consequences for his actions.

"It's a soap, all characters eventually get what's coming to them. Mackenzie definitely wants bad things to happen to Caleb," he revealed. "When things inevitably go wrong for Caleb, I'm not saying whether Mack will have a hand in it, but I'm sure he'll be able to attest to the reasoning behind it."

He also teased that the confrontation between the pair is tense, and whether he believes his character could turn to cold-blooded murder.

"It is a charged conversation, there's definitely a feeling that Mack could clock Caleb like he did Dan recently but it remains bubbling under the surface this time," he said.

"I think anyone in Emmerdale has it in them to be a killer, Mack definitely is troubled and estranged enough to 'push' the limits of what he's capable of but that will remain to be seen..."

On becoming a suspect in the case, Lawrence says he doesn't think things will "go down well" for Mack in the storyline.

"No one wants to be a suspect of anything, least of all for murder or attempted murder. Whether Mack is guilty or not, I don't think it's going to go down well for him. But he doesn't have an alibi and he's still furious with Caleb," he added.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
