An Emotional Ronda Rousey Admits to Thinking of Suicide Following Holly Holm Loss
Former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, during a recent guest appearance on The Ellen Show, admitted that she briefly went to an extremely dark place following her knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November.
Prior to the loss to Holm, Rousey had been soaring high above the world. She was undefeated in the cage, having beaten nearly all of her opponents in the first round, she was champion of the biggest fight promotion in the world, her star was rising in Hollywood, she was a champion for women and girls across the globe; everything was going right. Everything was perfect.
When that head kick landed, it all came crashing down. It was a difficult thing for Rousey to deal with in the immediate aftermath.

“Once I got in the medical room and I was down in the corner, I was like, ‘What am I anymore if I’m not this?'” a tearful Rousey admitted to host Ellen DeGeneres. “I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself, and that exact second I’m like, ‘I’m nothing. What do I do anymore?’ and ‘No one gives a (expletive) about me anymore without this.'”
Everyone gets knocked down in life, but when it happens to most of us, the whole world isn't watching. For Rousey, it was quite the opposite. Even though there were a lot of people that didn't watch the fight live, didn't see Rousey go down, everyone knew what happened. Fight fan or not, it was the water cooler topic of the day come Monday morning.
Fortunately for Rousey, like most of us, she had someone to lean on. Someone to pull her up out of her despair, if only by simply being there for her.
“To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man, Travis (Browne, fellow UFC fighter), was standing there, and I looked up at him and I was like, ‘I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive,’' Rousey continued. “Really, that was it. I haven’t told anybody that. I’ve only told him. But that was what I was thinking.
“I was meant to have him when I was at my lowest, for sure.”
After taking some time to gather herself following the loss, Rousey has returned to the spotlight, hosting Saturday Night Live, landing on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, doing media rounds, and preparing for a starring role in a remake of the Patrick Swayze classic “Road House.”

UFC president Dana White has loosely targeted the fall of this year for Rousey's return to the Octagon, where she would like to challenge Holm in a rematch for the belt.
