This is the end

Behind the heartbreak of losing an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley is a feeling of relief with the situation regarding Roberto Martinez. In recent weeks it seems the fans have been split of whether they should be in full support of the team in the hope that it’d help get to a final, or call for Martinez’ immediate sacking as the manager of Everton Football Club. Now, we can be in no doubt, he has to go.

The semi-final went pretty much true to Everton’s season. We play well for a half and then lose to a last minute winner. This was the most sickening of them all however. The FA Cup is magical and the final seemed so close. After the equaliser is looked like Eveton were the more likely to get the winner. However, it wasn’t meant to be. A squirmed ball ran through to Martial who crushed Everton’s hopes of silverware and hopefully crushed Martinez chances of continual management of Everton.

It was said that Martinez should get credit for our 2nd half display and maybe he should get a stay of execution for this, however that’s irrelevant. His future shouldn’t be decided on one half of football but rather two years of incompetence and mediocrity. I can see why he was kept on for the final, I wanted it so myself, he has shown himself to be a decent cup manager and I was hoping this would give us the best possible chance at Wembley and we came close. If Jagielka was fit and Coleman available then it could have been a different story.

Monday’s are hard enough but it will be a whole lot harder if he isn’t sacked by the end of it, If they have made up their minds as they should have done, surely it won’t be dragged on for longer than that. Bill Kenwright after the match called Martinez ‘one of the nicest men you’ll ever meet’ and i’m sure he is. It’s part of the reason Evertonians liked him so much in his first season’s and part of the reason people like myself wanted to give him the longest time possible to succeed. Last season was bad enough but excuses were made by everyone. Now the excuses are only being made by Martinez. He is overly positive which tricked everyone for a long time but it has wore thin and they have now become laughable.

It’s certainly time for him to go. It’s time for fans to stop hearing average performances describes as 'phenomenal’ and 'incredible’ and it’s time for us to start winning again. If he isn’t sacked before the Bournemouth game on Saturday, there will be protest. The nature of that protest will be decided in due course by Everton’s various fan groups and forums but the likes of delayed entrances, white handkerchiefs, banners, chants and early walk outs have been mentioned. If it happens, and hopefully his sacking will make it redundant, I think it’ll be the biggest protest about a manger that the Premier League has ever seen. The media have been very slow in picking up the huge feeling of resentment amongst Evertonians at the moment. If Kenwright likes Martinez as a person so much, he should put him out of his misery before that protest has to happen.

Martinez is a nice man, plays good football and brings through youth. All of those are good things to have in a manager but the be-all and end-all is the results. For two years now they have been awful and for that reason alone, this should be the end.
