ENG vs IND 2021: Nasser Hussain Opines If England Can Make A Comeback In The Series
England lost the second Test against India at Lord’s and are trailing the five-match series 1-0. The second Test starts from August 25 with both teams getting enough time to rethink on their strategy. Meanwhile, former England skipper Nasser Hussain has predicted if the Joe Root-led side can make a comeback in the series. He earlier blamed the England batting lineup for giving too much pressure on Root to score all the runs.
Meanwhile, the side is also cornered with injuries with Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad missing from the series and Ben Stokes on an indefinite break. Nasser Hussain reckons it will be tough for the home team to bounce back, but not impossible.
“It will be difficult with so many bowlers out injured, and the way England are batting. But, I repeat, they were in a position to win the second Test on the final morning so that game wasn’t all bad,” Hussain told the Daily Mail upon being asked if England can hit back at India.
“They had a mad hour but that’s the brilliance of Test cricket. The game can change so often throughout five days. It could be different at Headingley. It has looked very flat this year. But these are two vulnerable batting line-ups.”
England Cant Win With Joe Root Scoring Runs: Nasser Hussain
Nasser Hussain also blamed the rest of the England batting line-up for adding extra pressure on Joe Root to score most of the runs. So far in the series Root has scored 386 runs in four innings and over a thousand in the calendar year.
“England did play a lot of good cricket at Lord’s, let’s not forget that. When Rishabh Pant was walking off on Monday we all thought it could be 1-0 to England. India do have frailties in their batting. But England can’t win Tests with just one player in Root getting runs. Robinson has been an incredible find when there have been so many injuries to bowlers. So let’s not write them off just yet, but they desperately need others to score runs,” Nasser said.
