A year on from when it was originally due to take place, the European Championships will finally take place in June.

England will begin their Euro 2021 campaign with a rematch of the 2018 World Cup semi-final against Croatia at Wembley on June 13.

There is plenty of football to be played between now and the end of the season, with injuries still likely to play a role in final selection.

When will the England squad be announced?

Gareth Southgate is expected to name his 23-man squad on May 24, the Monday after the Premier League season concludes.

When is the deadline for the squad announcement?

England do not have to name their squad that early, however. Uefa's squad deadline is 10 days before the tournament begins on June 1.

Who is likely to be picked by Gareth Southgate?

Southgate has a vast array of options at his disposal. Mike McGrath has picked his squad on a weekly basis. In-form Jesse Lingard has now forced his way into the 23, here's why:

Another weekend where he made an irresistible case to go to the Euros. His first goal against Leicester showed how much confidence he has at the moment. He would not have taken on the first-time volley a few months ago. Jude Bellingham, who should really have gone to the Under-21 Euros in Slovenia rather than playing half a match against San Marino in the last break, could be the one missing out.

Bukayo Saka also gets the nod:

Took a knock to his thigh after a decent performance at Sheffield United. England players thought it was significant that he joined up with the squad for a couple of days before returning to Arsenal for treatment. It showed he is part of Southgate’s plans and was wanted in team meetings despite having no chance of playing. His versatility will be important as he can play from full-back up to forward. At Bramall Lane he played as No 10.
