England all but out of U21 Euros after incredible final 15 minutes against Romania

England are all but out of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship following a 4-2 defeat to Romania in Cesena.

After what was a cagey affair for much of the evening, the game exploded into life with 15 minutes to play.

With both sides unable to find the breakthrough, the stalemate was eventually broken on 75 minutes as England conceded a remarkable third penalty of the tournament.

Jonjoe Kenny slid in late on Florinel Coman and George Puscas made no mistake from 12 yards.

However, the goal provided the spark England needed as Demarai Gray’s stunning curler from the edge of the box flew in off the post to draw the sides level.

Despite being in the ascendancy, England then gifted possession to Ianis Hagi who fired Romania in front once more with a fine drive from the edge of the penalty area.

England again responded quickly through Tammy Abraham but Romania once again went in front when Florinel Coman’s shot crept under the body of Dean Henderson.

If his first had a sense of good fortune about it, Coman’s second was a thing of beauty, firing home a stunner from the edge of the box into the top corner to break England hearts.

Needing a highly unlikely set of results to progress to the next round, Aidy Boothroyd’s side’s interest in this competition is at an end.
