England 1-1 Brazil (4-2 pens) LIVE! Women’s Finalissima result, match stream and latest updates today

England vs Brazil LIVE!

England's Chloe Kelly scored the winning spot-kick to settle the inaugural Women's Finalissima after a dramatic evening against Brazil in front of a 83,132 Wembley crowd ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout victory.

Ella Toone looked to have secured the win for England with her 23rd-minute strike the game's only goal going into the third minute of second-half stoppage time.

But Andressa Alves managed to beat England keeper Mary Earps to force the shootout, where Georgia Stanway, Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood and Kelly - who scored the goal here that made the Lionesses European champions last summer - got the job done.

Sarina Wiegman's side are now undefeated in 30 matches, and will look to extend that streak when they host Australia in next week's pre-World Cup friendly.

I think Brazil deserved that. They were the better team in the second-half and England were victims of being a tad too cautious.

Penalties incoming. A good test ahead of the World Cup.

Proper drama at Wembley

Don’t. Go. Anywhere.

FULL TIME! England 1-1 Brazil

21:37 , Marc Mayo

90+5 mins: Geyse, who’s been the player of the second half, crosses and Williamson clears...

That’s full time! Penalties required.

Dom Smith at Wembley

21:36 , Marc Mayo

Mayhem at the back for England, who — to be honest — have looked rather lax defensively throughout this second half.

They fail to get it clear, Earps spills, and there ahead of Williamson is Andressa to pounce.

You can’t say England haven’t been warned.

GGGGOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!!! England 1-1 Brazil

21:35 , Marc Mayo

90+3 mins: ALVES!

Earps spills a cross right at the striker’s feet and she makes no mistake!

Brazil get the goal they have truly deserved.

21:34 , Marc Mayo

90+2 mins: A good old fashioned scramble in the penalty box as England just about clear their lines.

All the pressure from Brazil late on...

21:33 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Five minutes of stoppage time for the Lionesses to see out here.

21:30 , Marc Mayo

87 mins: Nunes, Fernanda and Palermo enter the fray for Brazil as Hemp is taken off with an ice pack to her face. Robinson replaces the winger.

21:27 , Marc Mayo

85 mins: Antonia gets her own back, inadvertantly it must be said, as her wrist catches Hemp on the nose as she challenges for a header in the box.

The physios come on as Brazil ready more subs.

21:25 , Marc Mayo

83 mins: Hemp booked for landing a very sturdy challenge on Antonia. She did get a bit of ball, but took all of her opponent in the process.

21:24 , Marc Mayo

81 mins: A superb attendance of 83,132 just announced at Wembley!

21:23 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: Into the final ten minutes with Brazil needing a goal to send the game to penalties - no extra time in the Finalissima.

But England have risen up again after the substitutions, Kelly the next to get forward and force a late tackle.

21:19 , Marc Mayo

76 mins: Daly straight into the action, catching up to a Hemp through ball to overhit a chip that flies over the bar - as the flag goes up.

21:18 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: Earps booked for time wasting - which is a good means of highlighting the state of this game.

There is a trophy on the line, remember!

21:15 , Marc Mayo

73 mins: Double change from Wiegman as Kelly and Daly replace James and Russo.

21:14 , Marc Mayo

71 mins: We’ve already had the phones light show, now we have a Mexican Wave from the Wembley fans.

Not a huge amount to inspire them on the pitch, with a stoppage in play for Greenwood to take treatment after clanging her head on the pitch in a clearance.

Brazil chance!

21:11 , Marc Mayo

69 mins: Greenwood caught by Geyse and she bombs into the box, looking to tee up Alves only for Williamson to snatch it off her toes. Vital touch!

Duda on for Luana in another forward-thinking Brazil change.

Save!

21:09 , Marc Mayo

67 mins: Stanway lines up a piledriver from outside the box and Leticia dives well to her left to parry it!

Dom Smith at Wembley

21:08 , Marc Mayo

Chloe Kelly is warming up for England.

The last time she represented the Lionesses at a sold-out Wembley… well, quite simply, she scored the biggest goal in the history of women’s football in England, clinching the Euros title for Sarina Wiegman’s side.

21:07 , Marc Mayo

65 mins: England come back at Brazil with a smart Carter ball aimed to the far post that Tamires has to clear behind her own goal.

Stanway goes short from the corner but James’ ball in hits the first player.

21:05 , Marc Mayo

62 mins: Brazil manage to catch themselves out from their own corner as Kerolin lays a short corner back to Alves, who swings it in from an offside position.

The ball had only nudged a yard away from the flag. Bizzare!

OFF THE BAR!

21:01 , Marc Mayo

59 mins: Geyse again the threat as England lose possession cheaply and the Brazil forward lashes a shot that Earps tips up in the air, and it bounces off the crossbar!

Brazil chance!

20:59 , Marc Mayo

56 mins: HUGE chance for Ary as she breaks into the box unmarked to get on the end of a cross... and she miskicks it!

A real escape for England.

Simon Collings at Wembley

20:57 , Marc Mayo

England have been a bit sloppy since the break. A few of their passes out from the back have been loose and Brazil are growing in confidence.

20:54 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: Toone attempts a cheeky piece of skill in her own half and concedes a throw for her troubles, which leads to Geyse firing a low shot at Earps from a tight angle.

From the goal kick, the Lionesses play themselves into trouble and Kerolin dribbles a shot wide from 20 yards.

Brazil have done more in this seven minutes of the second half than they managed all of the first.

20:52 , Marc Mayo

49 mins: Brazil have converted to a fluid 4-4-2 with their changes and are continuing to cause more issues.

England look to put a foot on the ball to calm their opponents down.

20:48 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: Much better from Brazil straight from kick-off, Williamson cutting out a cross before Alves pops up to fire a shot down Earps’ throat.

Kick-off! England 1-0 Brazil

20:47 , Marc Mayo

Two changes at the break, both from Brazil.

Adriana replaces Zaneratto up front and Alves is on for Lauren, a potentia formation change there.

Second-half coming up!

20:46 , Marc Mayo

Before the kick-off, Ellen White comes out on the pitch for a presentation to honour her 113 caps and retirement as the Lionesses’ all-time top scorer.

Much more needed from Brazil

20:42 , Marc Mayo

The visitors have held a measly 19 per cent of possession so far, with just one shot to England’s nine.

More numbers are needed in attack with this 5-3-2 formation keeping it rather straightforward for the hosts in defence.

Highlights: Superb team goal puts England ahead

20:40 , Marc Mayo

England living up to their ‘favourites’ tag

20:37 , Marc Mayo

It’s not been entirely one way traffic in that half but the Lionesses were well on top.

Sarina Wiegman might ask for a bit more patience in attack, with not much falling for striker Russo yet.

Their control of the game has been impeccable, however.

Dom Smith at Wembley

20:34 , Marc Mayo

The Lionesses well on top by the end of that half. They enter the dressing room already ahead, and you wouldn’t bet against the scoreline growing in their favour once proceedings resume.

The Brazilians have looked decent on the break, but must get more shots away.

HALF TIME! England 1-0 Brazil

20:32 , Marc Mayo

Toone’s goal the difference at the break in the Women’s Finalissima.

20:32 , Marc Mayo

44 mins: More threat from James, who drifts inside from the left as defenders back off.

Toone to her right and Carter overlapping, she floats a shot harmlessly off target.

Simon Collings at Wembley

20:29 , Marc Mayo

Lauren James played on both the left and right flanks this half - and been excellent. Creating so much. Brazil cannot handle her.

England chance!

20:28 , Marc Mayo

42 mins: James, now operating down the left, shimmies her way down the left and cuts a byline cross right onto the head of Hemp... easy for the keeper. Straight at Leticia.

20:27 , Marc Mayo

39 mins: Brazil captain Rafaelle shown a yellow card for arriving late on Stanway.

Probably going for the ball in reality, even if she was second to it.

20:24 , Marc Mayo

37 mins: James opts not to shoot into the empty net for 30 yards out after Rafaelle diverted the ball around her own goalkeeper and straight to the Chelsea winger.

Cutting onto her favoured right, she wins a corner which is nodded wide at the far post.

Dom Smith at Wembley

20:22 , Marc Mayo

The Lionesses have pushed for that second goal since breaking the deadlock through Toone’s angled finish.

The buoyant crowd here at Wembley will no doubt expect more goals from England, but Brazil certainly look a threat on the counter. They have real pace and directness.

20:21 , Marc Mayo

34 mins: More set-piece threat from England as a low corner is skated across the box for Bronze to head into the crowd.

Brazil clear and break through the increasingly dangeorus Kerolin, who is snuffed out 20 yards from goal.

20:18 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: Nervy moment from Bronze and Tamires flies in down the left, once again offside as Earps pushes the cross away.

GOA-NO!

20:16 , Marc Mayo

29 mins: JAMES LASHES HOME! But the flag is up...

Replays suggest that was the right call.

Wiegman, so often a picture of calm, enjoyed that one. She turned and just went: “Wow, what a goal.”

Brilliant goal from England, who had looked relatively quiet until this point.

Really well worked by Georgia Stanway and Lucy Bronze on the right channel. Then pulled back for Ella Toone who always finishes well.

She could play a key role for England this summer…

GGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! England 1-0 Brazil

20:09 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: TOONE!

Superb approach play from the Lionesses, first in a patient move that Toone and Hemp do well to keep alive.

The ball comes again through Bronze on the right and her cut-back is neatly finished by the midfielder!

Brazil chance!

20:06 , Marc Mayo

19 mins: Geyse gets goalside of Carter to force Brazil’s first proper chance of the game but the left-back makes up the space to deflect her shot wide.

Kerolin flies a cross-shot into touch from the corner.

20:04 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: Stanway shuts down Antonia’s attempt to nutmeg her and sparks an attack, although Russo is offside as she collects Hemp’s ball.

We do, in fact, have both VAR and semi-automated offsides at Wembley tonight. Fancy.

20:00 , Marc Mayo

14 mins: Bronze stings the fingertips of Leticia with a driven effort from 25 yards - that one was going in!

Simon Collings at Wembley

20:00 , Marc Mayo

Russo has made a bright start to the game and is causing Rafaelle plenty of problems. The Man United striker is peeling off out wide into the channels and looks effective.

19:59 , Marc Mayo

13 mins: Brazil’s coach spoke pre-game about the need to deal with the Lionesses’ aerial threat and the free-kick causes all manner of issues as it flashes across the face of goal.

The visitors survive.

19:58 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: Russo does well down the channel to latch onto a deep ball before turning Rafaelle as she darts into the box - foul given by the 18-yard line despite England keeping the attack going.

19:55 , Marc Mayo

8 mins: Clean work by Williamson and James, tracking back, to halt Geyse on the counter.

Brazil yet to create a serious attack on the home defence.

19:53 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: Bronze fires an early ball into the box for Russo to chase and she tumbles under a challenge!

Penalty appeals waved away as the flag goes up.

19:50 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: Smart ball from Toone looks for Hemp in behind down the left but Lauren is across quickly to slide the ball into touch.

England happy to play quick and into space when it exists.

19:48 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: England settle on the ball early with Brazil posing a flat back-five out of possession.

It looks like Alex Greenwood is slotting in alongside Leah Williamson and centre-back in the absence of Millie Bright. She has been in fine form there for Man City this season. Jess Carter at left-back.

"She's really improving, and getting fitter and fitter.

"She also needs to get to the next stage, she shows the level and we can to be careful with her."

New kit on show

19:30 , Marc Mayo

The Lionesses are donning a new home kit for the first time tonight, which is unique from the men's with blue trim to ease players' fears for wearing white shorts while on their period.

Women's teams around the globe are taking notice of this issue, just one of the many facets the women's game is gaining the ability to stand on its own two feet.

Pia Sundhage talks up Brazil’s Kerolin

19:26 , Marc Mayo

"I'm telling you she will be one of the best players in the world.”

"Not tomorrow, maybe the day after. She has a great technique, she's so eager to take the next step. So watch out for Kerolin!

"Sometimes she can be too ambitious, as young players are, but she can make mistakes today and be successful in the future."

Tactics: Pressure on wingers to shine

19:23 , Marc Mayo

The most competitive area of this England squad is out wide.

Wiegman has an embarrassment of riches there and that is even with Beth Mead out injured.

Chloe Kelly misses out tonight - and the other two of Lauren James and Lauren Hemp must take their chance. If they don’t, there is someone ready to take their spot.

Leah Williamson interview

19:18 , Marc Mayo

“In terms of the nation, it’s probably the first time I am not worried if people are going to be watching — because I believe that they will be.”

Brazil boss analyses England

Swedish veteran Pia Sundhage has been in charge of Brazil since 2019 and hopes she has got to grips with the Lionesses in what promises to be a clash of styles tonight.

“If you look at how England have been scoring goals, they’re especially good in the air,” said the manager.

“Their speed of play is also impressive, so we know it’s going to be tough. Every 50/50 battle is something we will need to deal with. But everything we experience tonight will be invaluable for us when it comes to the World Cup.

“You can't beat this kind of experience. It’s the best lesson ever.”

The Manchester United striker, however, faces a tough test tonight against Arsenal centre-back Rafaelle Souza.

The pair know each other well from their tussles in the Women’s Super League, where they have been two of the star performers.
