England vs Czech Republic player ratings, plus the Telegraph readers' verdict
Raheem Sterling's early goal sealed victory for England as Gareth Southgate's side secured top spot in Group D with an unbeaten record.
The goals may not have flowed but England once again shut out their opponents at the back as the likes of Harry Maguire, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka impressed after getting the nod to start.
Mike McGrath gives his verdict on how both England and Czech Republic players' fared.

Jordan Pickford — 6/10
Saved well to keep out a long-ranger from Holes. A late mistake aside, his kicking into midfield was good, despite getting an earful from Stones again for playing it long.

Athletic clearances to get his team out of trouble and calm cleaning up crosses swung over from the right. Chased ball 60 yards into the Czech area at one stage.

Looked comfortable dealing with the Czech attack and also showed he is a threat at the opposite end with a far-post header that flew over.

Harry Maguire — 8/10
First game in six weeks after ankle-ligament damage and straight into action with headed clearances, passes out of defence and blocks to repel danger.

Luke Shaw — 7/10
Set up Sterling in first two minutes to hit the post, he got down the left-flank much better than he managed against Scotland. Linked well with Grealish.

Marked Schick for set-pieces and much of his work was keeping his defence protected then moving the ball on quickly. Taken off at half-time.

Deeper than he has usually been for England at this tournament. Helped England stay in control.

Excellent work down right, where he ran at his full-back and got crosses over for his team-mates to attack, justifying his selection ahead of Sancho and Rashford.

Jack Grealish — 7/10
Roar when he first touched the ball, jeers when taken off. Showed why fans are excited, setting up Sterling’s goal and going on mazy runs. Drew fouls.

Hit the post in the opening minutes and showed a striker’s instinct to peel off to the far post and head home his goal.

More threatening inside the area and got his shots away, after taking a blow to the face early on from Kalas. Much better from the captain before quieter after break.

Good saves from Kane, getting down sharply to deny the England captain. No chance with the goal as Grealish delivered his cross perfectly.
Vladimír Coufal — 5/10
Drew foul from Shaw when he raided down the right flank but he would have liked to have been in enemy territory more
often.
Ondřej Čelůstka — 5/10
Moved himself onto Kane in the first half but had trouble tracking him when he got into a No10 position, then had to
deal with midfielders pushing on.
Tomáš Kalas — 6/10
Came across to challenge Kane with covering runs when his team were stretched. Made some good interceptions.
Jan Bořil — 6/10
Sterling pulled off him for the goal and was given enough space to head home comfortably. Got up and down the left to support attacks.
Tomáš Holeš — 5/10
Long-range shot saved in a good first-half opening but a there was little room to operate in the central areas for him
and pick passes.
Tomáš Soucek — 6/10
Flashed wide with Czech’s best effort of the first half. He kept the ball moving which was important for the visitors but
could not control the midfield.
Lukáš Masopust — 5/10
Struggled to get into the game but tried to pinch ball off opponents and showed he was willing to work to get his team
back into the game.
Vladimír Darida — 6/10
Was a threat with his set pieces and also showed a good range of passing from central midfield, spreading the ball into
area where there was space.
Jakub Jankto — 5/10
Tried to break forward and made good runs down the left but his team-mates did not always see him and left him frustrated.
Patrik Schick — 4/10
Came deep for ball, such was his frustration at not getting chances. After three goals in his first two games of the
tournament he found it a more difficult evening.
