Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra lavished praise on opener Rohit Sharma claiming the Mumbaikar has every shot in the cricketing book. Rohit scored a match-winning hundred in India’s second innings and went on to earn the Man-of-the-Match award for his performance.

Having conceded a 99-run first-innings lead, India was under pressure but Rohit bailed them out with a knock of 127 in 256 balls, studded with 14 four and a humongous six which brought up his century. Nehra stated that the 34-year-old has every shot in his armoury apart from the unconventional reverse sweep.

There is no stroke that is not there in Rohit Sharma’s book, whether you talk about the sweep or the cut. There is only one shot he has not been seen playing, that is the reverse sweep, that is the only one remaining in Test cricket,” Nehra mentioned.

If it wasn’t for Rohit’s knock, India would have been in deep waters. His partnerships, first with KL Rahul and then with Cheteshwar Pujara, propelled India into a lead and set the perfect platform for the middle-order to exploit.

“Rohit has put his utmost effort in this series” – Ashish Nehra

The former bowler continued to delve into the playstyle of the Indian opener, pointing out the major changes that Rohit has made. Prior to the start of the series, many were doubtful of whether the Mumbai Indians captain has what it takes to survive in English conditions.

He has proved them wrong in quite some fashion and is comfortably the second-best batsman in the series after England skipper Joe Root. In 4 Tests so far, Rohit has made 368 runs at an average of 52.57, only behind Root’s tally of 564 runs in the same number of matches.

He might have scored his first century, but Rohit Sharma has put his utmost effort in this series. The way he started in Nottingham, although he did get out playing the pull in the first two or three Tests, but the way he has changed his game. Rohit Sharma has given the best he can do in the prevailing conditions,” Nehra concluded.

India has a 2-1 lead in the 5-match Test series. The fifth and final Test will commence on September 10, Friday, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
