Current England fielding coach Paul Collingwood stated that the Indian team does play their style of cricket in terms of the way the old Australian team did but not when it came to sledging. The current team under Virat Kohli has shown that it doesn’t sit back during verbal battles.

Collingwood, who was part of the team during the peak Ashes times, compared the current Indian team to the ones he played against during his hay days. He said it would be a ‘bit harsh’ to compare what the Indian team has done in recent years to what the Australians did back then.

Both sides – they don’t want to give an inch. When you have two countries where cricket means a lot to them, a set of players for whom winning means a lot, then you do have heated exchanges. It was a great game to watch and we were on the wrong end of the result, but the level of intensity that we got from the game, the performance level we got from the game were right up there with anything you would see.”

And both teams were head to head with each other…I think the Australians, their behaviour and the way they play their game of cricket is changed over the years. So to say that they are like the Australians is probably a little bit harsh,” Paul Collingwood said during a virtual media interaction with Indian journalists.

“We are certainly preparing ourselves for an Indian bounce back” – Paul Collingwood

England did a quick turnaround at Headingley after the heartbreaking Lord’s defeat. They lost the game on the last day courtesy of a few tactical blunders but made a stunning comeback against India at Headingley. The hosts cruised to an innings and 76-run victory, dominating the game right from Day 1.

However, this isn’t the time for complacency. There are two more matches to go in the series, and Paul Collingwood was wary of the threat Virat Kohli and co. possess.

Can they (India) bounce back? I am sure we are certainly preparing ourselves for an Indian bounce back. We know that they are a high-quality team and we have always prepared ourselves that they are going to be 100 per cent ready for the next battle in new set conditions at the Oval,” Paul Collingwood added.

The series between England and India is currently level at 1-1, with the fourth Test being played at The Oval from September 2-6.
