England 8-0 Norway LIVE! Mead hat-trick - Women’s Euro 2022 result, match stream and latest updates today
England vs Norway - LIVE!
England Women secured safe passage into the Euro 2022 quarter-finals in the most emphatic of ways by beating Norway 8-0 on Monday night.
The tournament hosts scored six times in a rampant first-half display, with Georgia Stanway’s 12th-minute penalty and a finish from Lauren Hemp three minutes later being followed by a brace apiece from Ellen White and Beth Mead.
That equalled the most amount of goals scored by one team in a Euros match, and England went on to set a new record for the most emphatic victory at a finals, surpassing their 6-0 win over Scotland in 2017, following an effort from substitute Alessia Russo and Mead completing her hat-trick.
With the remarkable win seeing them seal top spot in Group A, the Lionesses will be returning to Brighton a week on Wednesday to play the runners-up in Group B - which features Germany and Spain - in the last eight.
The demolition job was watched by a crowd of 28,847, from which cries of "football’s coming home" rang out at various stages as England’s unbeaten run under boss Sarina Wiegman extended to a 16th match with a 14th victory.
Their group fixtures conclude with Friday’s meeting at St Mary’s with now-eliminated Northern Ireland, who had lost 2-0 to Austria earlier on Monday.

Good night and thank you for joining Standard Sport’s LIVE coverage of England’s stunning win over Norway at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.
Pressure, what pressure? The Lionesses have sent shockwaves throughout the rest of the tournament.

Sarina Wiegman: England did not expect such an easy run of it
22:46 , Jonathan Gorrie
England head coach Sarina Wiegman admitted she did not expect her side to be so dominant as they beat Norway 8-0 to set a new European Championship record.
The Lionesses qualified for the quarter-finals in style and set a new record win for a men’s or women’s Euros at the Amex Stadium in Brighton.
A contentious Georgia Stanway penalty, won by Ellen White, set England on their way to victory but there was no doubting the hosts’ dominance thereafter, as a Beth Mead hat-trick, White’s double and further goals by Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo earned a famous win.
"It was a very special night, we didn’t expect to make such a big win as we did," Wiegman told the BBC.

Beth Mead: I don’t think I could have dreamed Norway hat-trick
22:27 , Jonathan Gorrie
England hat-trick hero Beth Mead says the 8-0 demolition of Norway was beyond her wildest dreams as the Lionesses booked their place in the knockouts with a record win.
Sarina Wiegman’s team smashed the previous record for a win at a men’s or women’s European Championship by two goals as a Norway side -- who were tipped by some as dark horses -- were blown away by the hosts at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.
Ellen White scored twice, while Georgia Stanway, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo also found the net, but Arsenal’s Mead was England star’s, following her winner in the opening game against Austria with a fine treble.

PENALTY TO ENGLAND!
White brought in the box...
A bit nervy
20:09 , Jonathan Gorrie
07:00 - Norway looking far more relaxed, England rushing into poor decisions.
The Lionesses know they can improve on that, having done so last week, but they do need to start settling down.
Hegerberg watch
20:07 , Jonathan Gorrie
04:00 - Seems somewhat dimissive to reduce a team of Norway’s quality to just one player, but the crowd are cheering as soon as Hegerberg is robbed of the ball.
That alone says so much...
Scrappy early on
20:04 , Jonathan Gorrie
02:00 - Fairly scrappy early on, with neither side being able to get a foot on the ball.
Stanway, however, is such a bundle of energy and her quick-fire breaks could be key on the counter.
Norway gets us underway
20:02 , Jonathan Gorrie
01:00 - Norway looking composed, much as Austria did during the opening exchanges last week.
England will likely have a LOT more to do defensively, but Lucy Bronze’s clearances sets the tone early.

Fran Kirby’s warning
19:49 , Jonathan Gorrie
Fran Kirby has warned England’s rivals that she is still nowhere near her best and says the Lionesses are aiming to peak in the final of the European Championship after starting the tournament with a 1-0 win over Austria last night.
Kirby was England’s standout player at a sold-out Old Trafford, making the only goal for Beth Mead, but the hosts failed to capitalise on their early advantage and faced late pressure from an unfancied Austrian side.
Kirby did not play for Chelsea from February after suffering from extreme fatigue and says she and the team will grow as the Euros progress.

England vs Norway: Three factors to decide tonight’s Women’s Euro 2022 clash
18:32 , Jonathan Gorrie
England face Norway tonight in a key match-up in the race to win Group A.
Both teams began their Women’s Euro 2022 campaign with victories as the Lionesses edged Austria by a single goal.
There were fewer problems for Norway in downing Northern Ireland and England will have to be on top form to secure a victory which would all-but confirm their place in the next round.
Here are three key areas to look out for at Amex Stadium...
Wiegman not in the mood for mind games
18:24 , Jonathan Gorrie
England Women boss Sarina Wiegman has dismissed the claims of Norway boss Martin Sjogren that all the pressure is on the Lionesses ahead of Monday’s Euro 2022 clash.
The two sides both won their opening games of the tournament and go into the match at the Amex in Brighton looking to take control of Group A and qualify for the quarter-finals.
Ahead of the match, Sjogren argued all the pressure is on England as they are the host nation.

Betfair: England vs Norway specials
England to win and Ellen White to score anytime: 9/5
England to win and Beth Mead to score anytime: 2/1

England to win 2-0 and Beth Mead to score anytime: 18/1
Prediction: 1-1 draw

Norway’s strong start to the tournament was in contrast with a nervy outing by England and the Lionesses may have to settle for a point unless they can be at their best on the south coast.
A 1-1 draw.
England team news: No fresh injury concerns

Sarina Wiegman is set to be able to pick an unchanged starting line-up for the match, featuring Leah Williamson as captain in central defence.
