Phil Foden will make his senior England debut in Saturday's Nations League qualifier against Iceland.

The Manchester City midfielder has been named in Gareth Southgate's starting XI in Reykjavik alongside Southampton's James Ward-Prowse, who starts for the first time and wins his third cap, having last appeared as a late substitute in the 5-1 win over Montenegro in March 2019.

Kyle Walker and Eric Dier also feature for the first time since the Nations League finals against Switzerland in June 2019, while Everton's Jordan Pickford is preferred in goal to Nick Pope and Dean Henderson for England's first fixture in 10 months.

With manager Gareth Southgate having named no recognised left-backs in his squad, Kieran Trippier is expected to play on the left side of a back four, although the presence of Declan Rice in the starting XI means England could opt for a back three.

Rice is one of three survivors – along with captain Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling – from England's outing, a comfortable 4-0 win in Kosovo in November.

Newcomers Jack Grealish, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Conor Coady, Kalvin Phillips and Mason Greenwood are all included on the bench.

England XI: Pickford, Trippier, Walker, Gomez, Dier, Ward Prowse, Rice, Foden, Sterling, Sancho, Kane
