England XI vs Montenegro: Predicted lineups for Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley

Callum Hudson-Odoi may be given the chance to benefit from Raheem Sterling's absence for England against Montenegro on Thursday night.

Manchester City forward Sterling will not feature in the Three Lions' 1000th fixture at Wembley having been dropped by Gareth Southgate following a bust-up with Joe Gomez in the canteen at St. George's Park on Monday.

Chelsea's Hudson-Odoi - who shone in the away fixture in Podgorica in a thumping 5-1 win that was marred by disgusting racial abuse directed at England players - is expected to be handed only his third senior cap in place of Sterling, with Jadon Sancho struggling for form this term.

Southgate has confirmed that his line-up against Montenegro will be full of youth and potentially even younger than the team that beat Spain 3-2 in the Nations League in October 2018.

At 23, Harry Winks would be the elder statesman of a midfield triumvirate potentially featuring West Ham's Declan Rice and Chelsea's exciting academy graduate Mason Mount.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also be pushing for a starting berth, but Fabian Delph and Ross Barkley have been ruled out by injury and the likes of Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard and Jack Grealish did not make the squad.

Leicester's James Maddison will likely await his debut from the bench after being handed a reprieve following his casino visit during the last international break.

In defence, John Stones is back and Michael Keane has been omitted, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier competing for the right-back slot.
