Enzo Fernandez has sent Julian Alvarez a message on social media ahead of Argentina's friendly against Guatemala this weekend. The 24-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca looks to bolster the Blues' frontline.

Alvarez, who sees his contract at the Etihad Stadium expire in 2028, featured 36 times in the Premier League this season, scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists. Playing a crucial role in Pep Guardiola's side, he helped Manchester City write themselves into the history books, winning a fourth successive top-flight title.

The striker also helped the club win the FIFA Club World Cup for the first time, netting a brace against Fluminense in the final. Alvarez earned himself a place in the Argentina squad with his impressive performances.

Alongside Fernandez, Lionel Scaloni's side are now gearing up for the Copa America this summer. A key part of their preparation has been sipping on a herbal drink called 'yerba-mate' native to South America.

A lot of Argentina players were spotted drinking the intriguing-looking tea at the World Cup in Qatar. When quizzed on the beverage by the New York Times in December 2022, Alexis Mac Allister said: "It has caffeine. But I drink it more than anything to bring us together."

Nevertheless, the drink appears to remain popular among players ahead of the Copa America. On Instagram, Fernandez snapped a picture of his flask of tea and 'yerba mate' with the caption: "@juliaanalvarez [tea emoji and smiling emoji]."

The Chelsea midfielder later uploaded a pre-match graphic to his story, suggesting he could start for Argentina on Saturday morning. While Blues supporters may be hoping that Fernandez can lure his close friend to Stamford Bridge, the Manchester City ace has seemingly already ruled out a move this summer.

When asked about his future while away on international duty, Alvarez lifted the lid. As quoted by the Evening Standard, he told ESPN: "These are things that are said, but I am calm; I am comfortable and happy at City; we will see what happens."

Last weekend, Atletico Madrid ruled themselves out of the race to sign Alvarez. Club president Enrique Cerezo said: "Julian Alvarez is a Manchester City player and I believe he won’t be moving from there."
