Erling Haaland says Manchester City are "hunting" Arsenal as the champions closed the gap on the league leaders to five points.

In his first City game since the World Cup break, Haaland scored his 19th and 20th league goals of the season, in just his 14th game, to beat Leeds United at Elland Road.

It was a return to winning ways for City, who had lost to Brentford in their final game before the break some six weeks ago.

Arsenal made easy work of West Ham two days ago to maintain their advantage, but will have to see City play again, at home to Everton, before they travel to Brighton on New Year's Eve evening.

Haaland says him and his team-mates know what they must do to retain their league crown.

"We see Arsenal at the top... we have to hunt them," Haaland told Amazon Prime.

He added: "I said inside [the dressing room that] I could have scored five. But we win, that's the most important thing.

"I could have scored more but that's life."
