EURO 2016 TEAM PREVIEW: GROUP A - ROMANIA

Tip: Early exit

Cult hero: Razvan Raț spent 10 years at Shakhtar Donetsk, when the Ukrainian Premier League was not exactly sexy, during which time he started picking up Romanian caps for fun at left-back. Since 2013, though, Rat has struggled to impress at West Ham, Rayo Vallecano and PAOK due to a series of injuries

Star player: Even though Romania could only net 11 times in qualifying, they do possess a livewire striker in Florin Andone who could set the tournament alight this summer. The 23-year-old is scoring goals for fun over in the Segunda Division for Cordoba and you get the feeling he is key to Romania making it out of a group, which on paper is not the hardest outside of hosts France.

Player to watch: Much like Andone, Nicolae Stanciu is new to the senior scene and looks like a player in a hurry to secure a move to one of the big five European leagues based on his form for Steaua Bucharest these past few seasons. Romanian fans, and neutrals come to think of it, will be hoping that he turns out more Gheorghe Hagi than Ilie Dumitrescu for the Tricolorii to make it past the group.

How they qualified: They were the tightest defence in qualifying with just two goals finding their way into the Romanian onion bag, but they struggled hugely to find the net at the other end too. Thankfully five wins and five draws saw them claim second behind Northern Ireland in wacky Group F.

Line-up prediction: Tatarusanu, Sapunaru, Chiriches, Grigore, Rat, Pintilii, Hoban, Torje, Stanciu, Stancu, Andone
