Euro 2020: Stephanie Frappart to become first female referee to officiate at a men’s European Championships

(AFP via Getty Images)Stephanie Frappart has made history after becoming the first female referee to be selected to officiate at a men’s European Championships.
Frappart has been named as a fourth official for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament, which is due to start on June 11.
The French referee became the first woman to take charge of a men’s World Cup qualifier last month, and previously made history by refereeing the 2019 Super Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.
The 37-year-old also refereed the 2019 Women’s World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands.
England’s Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor have been named as two of the 18 referees for the Euros, while fellow Premier League referees Stuart Attwell, Lee Betts and Chris Kavanagh have been selected as VAR officials.
Argentina’s Fernando Rapallini will become the first South American official to referee at a European Championships after being selected as part of a Uefa-CONMEBOL exchange programme that will see a Spanish referee take charge of games at the 2021 Copa America.
