Euro 2024 has almost reached the quarter-final stage, with the last two round of 16 matches – Romania vs Netherlands and Austria vs Turkey – taking place later today.

England are through to the quarter-finals already, after yet another unconvincing performance, this time against Slovakia, whom they beat thanks to two goals scored after 90 minutes.

The top half of the draw has now become clearer with Spain and Germany lining up a quarter-final with each other, while yesterday saw France overcome Belgium, thanks to a late own goal, and Portugal, including a tearful Cristiano Ronaldo, finally getting the better of plucky Slovenia via a penalty shootout.

Today’s fixture and prediction

Romania vs Netherlands, 5pm, BBC

The Dutch said getting to a quarter-final would be a par score for them at this tournament and they should manage it. Romania did well in the group but have their obvious limitations.
Predicted score: 1-2

Austria vs Turkey 8pm, ITV

This is a really tough one to call but Austria’s high-pace, high-intensity football can overwhelm Turkey. They should progress, but it could go the other way as Turkey have some quality players.
Predicted score: 3-2

Remaining round of 16 fixtures

  • July 2: Romania v Netherlands (5pm) - BBC

  • July 2: Austria v Turkey (8pm) - ITV

How to watch Euro 2024 on TV

The BBC and ITV/STV are sharing broadcast rights for the European Championship in the United Kingdom.

The BBC showed England’s opening win against Serbia and broadcast their draw with Denmark after ITV banked on Gareth Southgate’s men reaching at least the semi-finals.

ITV picked England’s final Group C game against Slovenia, plus the last-16 fixture against Slovakia and any semi-final.

The BBC will show the England quarter-final, with both channels – as always – sharing the final.
