EURO BITES: Bundesliga - Bayern Munich set another record, will Jürgen Kramny get the Stuttgart job permanently?, and Andre Schürrle is still a super sub

Chris Leischwitz brings the latest news from the Bundesliga as Bayern Munch set more records and Stuttgart name a new manager.

DORTMUND WIN AGAIN, BUT MATS HUMMELS IS BENCHED

After two losses in a row for the first time this season for Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Tuchel’s team got back on track now with a 4-1 win over VfB Stuttgart on Sunday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored twice, surpassing Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich in the race for the most goals with 17 overall.

But the biggest talking point came over the absence of Matt Hummels in the Dortmund defence.

The World Cup winner had been responsible for an own goal in the 3-1 loss at Hamburg, and another mistake also led to the 1-0 defeat in the Europa League match at FK Krasnodar. In addition, the 26-year-old had occasionally criticised teammates for mistakes.

HOW LONG WILL THE NEW STUTTGART MANAGER STAY?

Dortmund’s 4-1 win also meant a debut loss for the Bundesliga’s newest manager, Jürgen Kramny. He took over the Stuttgart squad last Tuesday after Alexander Zorniger was fired over a dispute with the club management over future tactics.

Kramny has been managing the relatively successful U23 team for four years. It is currently unclear if he will return to that role or remain in the Bundesliga.

General manager Robin Dutt stated that Kramny “may see this situation as a career chance”.

While it is very likely the bottom club will look for a new manager, it is the club’s goal in the meantime to calm the tense situation by leaving the current manager’s future open.

BAYERN MUNICH STILL SUCCESSFUL, AND STILL RICH

FC Bayern Munich was missing eight regulars last weekend, among them Arjen Robben, Franck Ribéry, Douglas Costa, David Alaba, and Mario Götze.

Although manager Pep Guardiola had to improvise – defender Jérôme Boateng for example started as a midfielder - Bayern still managed to celebrate a completely comfortable 2-0 win over Hertha BSC Berlin.

It set yet another record too, with 40 points after 14 games, and Thomas Müller scored goal number 13 for the season. He has never scored more during one season and has 20 more matches to add to the tally.

Success also came off the pitch too. During the club’s general assembly last Friday, a record turnover of €523.7 million (£368.7 million) was presented.

News concerning manager Guardiola’s future, meanwhile, is expected to be made official between December 19, the date of the year’s last Bundesliga matchups before the winter break, and Christmas.

BREMEN LOSE TO BIG RIVALS

Werder Bremen lost 3-1 in their northern German derby against Hamburger SV on Saturday.

Hamburg led thanks to an early goal by Ivo Ilicevic and a deflected free-kick by Michael Gregoritsch. Anthony Ujah gave Bremen hope, but only a few minutes later a goal by Nicolai Müller sealed a deserved away win.

While HSV survived relegation in the last two seasons, Bruno Labbadias team is now ranked seventh and is considered a realistic candidate for a Europa League spot.

Bremen, on the other hand, have won only one match at home all season and is getting dragged closer and closer to the bottom of the table.

LEVERKUSEN SAVES POINT THANKS TO SCHALKE OWN GOAL

Bayer Leverkusen did not feel like celebrating after a 1-1 draw against Schalke on Sunday, after the late equaliser came by a rather lucky own goal when a deflected ball hit Schalke’s Sascha Riether in the face.

Leverkusen missed several good scoring chances in the first-half and showed defensive weaknesses after the break, one of which allowed Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting to take advantage and score the opener.

Leverkusen is starting to fall behind expectations, and with a few more draws this weekend, fifth ranked VfL Wolfsburg and 11th ranked Ingolstadt are only six points apart.

It all makes the race for Europa League spots the most interesting one inside the Bundesliga - and makes things a lot tougher for Leverkusen.

SCHÜRRLE BECOMING A SUPER SUB

When André Schürrle left Chelsea to join Wolfsburg ten months ago, he was confronted with high expectations.

Up to now, however, the World Cup winner has not come even close to meeting those expectations – at least not as a player in the starting eleven.

Whenever Schürrle has played the entire game in a Bundesliga match, he has not recorded a single assist let alone scored a goal.

During the Champions League game last Wednesday in Moscow, however, Schürrle came into the game after one hour and scored two goals that could determine the financial fate of the club through reaching the round of 16.

The 25-year-old appears to be on the way to become a permanent substitute - much like he was at Chelsea.
