Everton will learn the full details of the club’s final league game at Goodison Park by April 4.

The Blues will host Southampton for the historic occasion - with the match scheduled for the penultimate weekend of the season.

That followed a request by the club to play the final fixture of the campaign away from L4 in the hope an emotional spectacle does not get lost among the competing storylines of the final day - when every game kicks off at 4pm and multiple matches will be on TV at the same time.

Everton are hopeful of making Goodison’s farewell a standout event and hosting it the weekend before provides a far better chance of this being the case. The match is currently slated for 3pm on Sunday, May 18 - but so is every game that weekend.

That is because the FA Cup final will take place on Saturday, May 17. It means the Blues play Southampton on another day over the course of that weekend, which could include the Monday night. That is, of course, unless either side reaches the FA Cup final.

This season the Premier League is committing to confirming TV picks no later than six weeks before matches before Christmas and five weeks for those that fall after it - with the exception of the final day, though there is no danger of times or dates being changed for those matches. The deadline for fixtures in gameweek 37 to be rearranged for TV is April 4, meaning by then Everton and the club’s supporters will know the specific date and time for Goodison’s final league game.
